Robert Paltock (1697–1767) was an English novelist and attorney. He was admired by Walter Scott, Coleridge, Southey and Charles Lamb. This novel is Paltock's most famous work. "The Life and Adventures of Peter Wilkins" is somewhat on the same plan as Robinson Crusoe, the special feature being the gawry, or flying woman, whom the hero discovered on his island, and married. With a number of elegantly engraved illustrations, including a fold-out plate to volume II. In a quarter morocco binding. Externally, generally smart with slight wear to corners. Internally, firmly bound. Small tear to rear free endpaper of volume II. Generally bright with foxing to first and last few pages of both volumes, otherwise generally clean.
