A near fine copy of In Kedar's Tents from Victorian novelist Henry Seton Merriman, author of The Sowers A near fine copy of In Kedar's Tents by Newcastle-born novelist Hugh Stowell Scott. Scott wrote under the name Henry Seton Merriman, and is best known for his novel The Sowers which was made into a silent film in 1916. Set against a backdrop of political discontent in England in the mid 19th century, the novel charts the adventures of Frederick Conyngham in England and Spain. After his friend becomes embroiled with the Chartists, a working class movement for political reform in UK from around 1838 to 1857, barrister Conyngham attempts to help his friend evade murder charges. In the publisher's original red cloth binding. Very smart, with some shelf wear only. Light rubbing to the front board, less to the spine and the rear board. Internally, firmly bound. This is the first of Surtees' novels to feature this character, introducing Jorrocks' love of hunting, shooting, racing, driving, sailing and other eccentric and extravagant exploits.
