The perspective of educational and university history has clearly changed since that time but the research about the Leipzig faculty of law in the Middle Ages has in essence has remained at the same place established by Friedberg. It is at this point that Marek Wejwoda's book begins. It taps a variety of until now unknown sources from external collections and with those sources it considerably expands the material basis for research. On this expanded foundation the author constructs a new image of the school in the first half-century of its existence, oriented to current trends in historiography. In doing so he goes from traditional institution historical questions concerning the scope and composition of the teaching body, to the content, organization and frequency of the courses. The book also thoroughly examines the view of the Leipzig jurists and their social activities.
