Der Autor beschreibt die Erstellung eines in vivo Modells für Studium der Pathologie und pharmakologische Manipulation der Zytostatika-Induzierte-Alopezie. Untersucht werden die Wirkung unterschiedlicher Mengen Cyclophosphamid (Endoxan) auf den Haarwuchs, die einzelne Phasen der Haarfollikel-Dystrophie und die Wiederherstellung der Haarfollikel-Morphologie. Im Buch wird die Existenz von zwei Grundreaktionen auf zytostatischen Noxen wärend der Entstehung von dystrophen Anagen VI und dystrophen Katagen & Telogen erläutert. Die Ergebnisse belegen, dass die behandelte Tiere sowohl makroskopisch, als auch histologisch die gleiche Phänomene wie nach Endoxan-Behandlung bei Menschen aufweisen. Die Befunde haben eine hohe klinische Relevanz, welche die Erstellung eines universellen Dystrophie-Score zu Klassifikation der Haarfollikel-Pathologie ermöglicht. Die ZIA konnte durch systemische Applikation von Cyclosporin A (Sandimmun) abgeschwächt, jedoch nicht komplett verhindert werden. Das Buch richtet sich an Studenten, Ärzte und Wissenschaftlern mit Interessen für ZIA-Pathologie und gibt umfassende Information über dem Umgang mit diesem in vivo Modell für Haarforschung.
