Though each of these foundations clung to its essential Dominican identity, each had its own particular founding dynamic, developing a distinct character and manner of carrying out its own peculiar kind of mission . Not all their works were crowned with success, nor were the egalitarian views of some of their founders retained absolutely intact. Yet all five communities showed themselves innovative in meeting the needs of a developing Church. In 1929 these five groups were amalgamated into a single English Congregation. The years since Vatican II have seen constant changes in the life style and work of the congregation, marked by an increasing collaboration with other Dominicans and the laity.
