MOST (Media Oriented Systems Transport) wurde als Multimedia- Netzwerk-Technologie entwickelt, um einen effizienten Transport von Streaming-Daten, Paket-Daten und Kontrollinformationen in Automobilen zu gewährleisten. Es stellt das Kommunikationsrückgrad der Infotainment-Systeme im Fahrzeug dar. Darüber hinaus eignet sich MOST jedoch auch für andere Produktbereiche wie z. B. Unterhaltungselektronik. MOST ist ein Kommunikationssystem mit einer flexiblen und herstellerübergreifenden Architektur und heute das am weitesten verbreitete Netzwerk für Multimedia im Automobil. Im Jahr 2006 wurde es weltweit in über 40 Fahrzeugmodellen verwendet. MOST definiert Protokoll, Hardware, Software und die Systemschichten, die für den leistungsfähigen und kostengünstigen Transport von Echtzeitdaten über ein gemeinsames Medium notwendig sind. Die MOST Technologie wird von den Automobilherstellern und Zulieferern gemeinsam innerhalb der MOST Cooperation entwickelt und standardisiert. Dieses Buch wurde im Auftrag der MOST Cooperation realisiert und soll den Einstieg in die MOST Technologie erleichtern. Die Autoren des Buchs sind bei Automobilherstellern, Zulieferern und an wissenschaftlichen Einrichtungen tätig.
