Blind decorated boards. Spine decorated in gilt and blind. Gilt hashed board edges, blind tooled turn-ins. Marbled endpapers, red died page edges. Light marking to boards. Good solid binding with no cracking to joints. Light foxing and browning to text. Complete with the second part, 'Three Setts of Medals Illustrated' with separate title page. All 31 plates are present (with browning). Section of loss to margin of leaf A5 (text unaffected), small section of loss to outer edge of leaf A10 (with slight loss of text). Leaf K7 (Medals Series III, Illustration numbers 11 & 12) has an old sheet of handwritten notes pasted to the verso. Unpublished during Addison's lifetime, this essay was first printed in the 1721 collected edition of Addison's works. This is the first separate edition (using sheets from the 1726 edition of Works). ESTC states that two further unrelated essays were also included (The Present State of the War & Of Christian Religion) however they are not in this example. Very scarce in this separate edition.
