English summary: The first known von der Reckes were noble castellans of the Counts of the Kamen marches. Two or three generations later, they are already recorded as being great in number. They took important positions in the region and possessed large dominions in the marches and in southern Muensterland. In the 19th century, the von Reckes played an important role not only in the Duchy of Prussia and in Kurland, but also in Denmark and Silesia. Throughout history, more than 600 estates of all sizes were at one time in their hands. Today only a single older agricultural property near the town of Minden remains -- despite the fact that the von Recke family still has numerous members. They preserve the memories of their long history and continue to feel themselves bound to certain aristocratic values. But they have become a bourgeois family. This is reflected in their professions and in the types of men and women that they marry. Such a transition is no longer a great drama, but part of the course of history. It was the violent circumstances in which the transition took place which were terrible for many members of the family. The experience of the 20th century with its two world wars and two totalitarian systems and their aftermath, were for many associated with extremely painful losses and for some with tragic entanglements. German description: Die ersten bekannten Herren von der Recke waren adelige Burgmanner der Grafen von der Mark in Kamen. Schon zwei, drei Generationen spater werden sie in grosser Zahl bezeugt. Sie nehmen wichtige Funktionen in der Region ein und haben bereits bedeutende Herrschaften in der Mark und im sudlichen Munsterland inne. Nicht wenige gehoren zum Deutschen Ritterorden in Livland. Einer von ihnen erwirbt dort in der Zeit der Reformation die grosse Herrschaft Neuenburg. Im 19.
