Later, in adulthoodstandard English comes into prominence. Slang is the main featureat this age. Adults generally use standard language but theiroccupations and jobs can affect their language use. Based on thisevidence I was curious to see whether youngsters use more slangwords than older people. I have examined four televisionprogrammes, and the result has been surprising. My research soughtthe following research questions: 1.Does the speech of the youth ontelevision contain more slang words that of the adults? 2. Is thedifference in the number of slang words used by youngsters andadults considerable?
