[ED: Taschenbuch], [PU: XULON PR], The NORTHERN SPIRITS characters began their trek from the Lower 48 following the explosive declaration of the Alaskan gold discoveries in the early 1900's .There is a slightly different approach to this story as the northern spirits are not only the adventurers, but also the wilderness chorus, who warns the adventurers of their ignorance and disrespect to the land. Lani, a Black Indian woman, discovers searching for gold not an option to gain riches and whose life intertwines with the people she meets on the trail. A town grows from the small settlement of adventurers providing the social amenities similar to their past. Lani and her friends are a part of a new society which reflects the interconnection with their environment and world events. The adventurers discover the truest of treasures: friendships, love, food and warmth, and respect for the land they grew to love. About the Author Barb Pellett resided one year in Fairbanks, Alaska in 1967 where she met a few original adventurers who had searched for gold during the gold strikes of the early 1900's. The insatiable spirits of these extraordinary eighty and ninety year olds made for lively times at the Pioneer Home and made a profound desire in Barb to share their spirit through her novel, NORTHERN SPIRITS. Her writings include family stories, newspaper articles, and published poetry. Barb also created and published a monthly newsletter for consumers with developmental disabilities acknowledging their accomplishments and upcoming activities. Recently, Barb retired as a special needs teacher. She has resided in her home state of Vermont since 1986 . Her son, his wife, and their two children live nearby, but never close enough.
