W. , visible 5 miles; and 370 yards E. S of the former, a fixed white light is shown from a lamp-post at a height of 28 ft. , visible 5 miles. The two in one lead into the Mer de Fief. Port St. Martin. --On the salient angle of the demi-bastion, 109 yards east of the entrance to the port, a circular tower, 38 ft. high, shows a fixed red light at a height of 56 ft. above H. W. , visible 7 miles, between N. 60 W. and S. 38 E. , round by northward. Port de la Flotte. --On the new mole, a circular tower, 28 ft. high, shows a fixed white light at a height of 33 ft. above H. W. , visible 9 miles. Point Chauveau. --On the rocks off the S. E. point of the island, a circular tower, 76 ft. high, shows a fixed white and red light at a height of 59 ft. above H. W. ; the red sector, visible 13 miles, covers all the rocks along the south coast of He de Re as far westward as point Chanchardon. By keeping in the white light, visible 14 miles, all dangers are avoided. Directions. --Entering Pertius Breton, keep in mid-channel, with the light on Aiguillon point, bearing S. E. by E. E. , until the light of Grouin du Cou bears N. N. W. ; then steer S. S. E. E. , and when the church of St. Martin bears S. W. W. bear up towards it and anchor in the roadstead of St. Martin, in from 3 to 5 fms. , sand and mud. Vessels of heavy draught can anchor in 8 or 9 fms. ; there is anchorage in La Flotte roadstead in 2 fms. Be careful to avoid La Rocha or the bank of St. Martin, which runs eastward from He de Re towards the middle of the channel, and has only 6 to 18 ft. water on it.
