THE VERY LONG STREET is a tale told by Felwet, a one of a kind (because he's a hodgepodge of rodent genes) rodent, whose tail, one day, while he himself is scrounging in a park for roly-polies, is mistaken for a worm by a mother bird. She snatches him and flies him out of the park, but upon realizing her mistake, she flusters, hits a lightpost, and lands in a backyard. Ailing and contrite about her blunder, she asks Felwet to take care of her nestlings. On top of that, he'll need a lot of gumption and a little bit of good luck, for the very long street is indeed very long.
