German Description: Wo bleibt die Aufklarung in Zeiten postmoderner Weite und fundamentalistischer Willkur? Die Autorinnen und Autoren widmen sich dem Thema aus drei Perspektiven: Zum einen untersuchen sie, was Aufklarung wissenschaftstheoretisch bedeuten kann. Zweitens ermitteln sie die Potenziale, die in der Beschaftigung mit der Epoche Aufklarung stecken. Schliesslich analysieren die Beitrage aufklarerische Diskurse. So setzen sich die Texte in der Festschrift fur Thomas Stamm-Kuhlmann mit dem aufklarerischen Impetus mittelalterlicher Karten, Hayden Whites oder Michel Foucaults auseinander; sie bieten einen Einblick in die Paradoxien der danischen oder amerikanischen Aufklarung; und sie verweisen auf die aufklarerischen Wurzeln der europaischen Idee, von Volkssouveranitat, Rechtsstaat und Gewaltenteilung, der hygienischen Volkserziehung in der DDR oder der Auseinandersetzung mit Geschichtsrevisionismus und Postmoderne. English Description: Where does the Enlightenment remain in times of postmodern emptiness and fundamentalist caprice? The authors consider this theme from three perspectives: first, they examine what the Enlightenment can mean epistemologically. Second, they look into the potential which arises from an engagement with the Age of Enlightenment. Finally, they analyze the scholarly contributions to the Enlightenment discourse. Thus the texts in the Festschrift for Thomas Stamm-Kuhlmann deal with the Enlightenment impulse of medieval maps between Hayden White and Michel Foucault; they provide insight in the paradoxes of the Danish or American Enlightenment; and they indicate the Enlightenment roots of the European concepts of the sovereignty of the people, the legal state and division of powers, the hygienic education campaigns in the German Democratic Republic or the conflict with historical revisionism and postmodernity.
