Excerpt: Argenteuil was a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the Canadian House of Commons from 1867 to 1948, 1968 to 1972, and 1979 to 1980. Argenteuil electoral district was originally created in the British North America Act of 1867. In 1947, it was redistributed into Argenteuil-Deux-Montagnes. Argenteuil was re-created in 1966, and then redistributed into Argenteuil-Deux-Montagnes until 1970. In 1976, Argenteuil was re-created, and then became Argenteuil-Papineau in 1981. Initially, Argenteuil consisted of the Parishes of Saint Andrews, Saint Jérusalem, part of the Parish of St. Jérome, the Townships of Chatham, Wentworth, Grenville and Augmentation, Harrington and Augmentation, Gore, Howard, Arundel, Montcalm Wolfe, Salaberry and Grandisson, and part of the Township of Morin .
