Exshaw (Dublin, Ireland), 3 3/4 x 6 1/8 inches tall brown leather hardbound, title page with engraved portrait of Erasmus, Latin and English in parallel columns, 240pp. Front free-endpaper lacking. Occasional chipping or creasing to pages, and a very minor amount of foxing. A bit of worming in last half of book, resulting in some minor loss of text but nevertheless still quite readable throughout. Otherwise, a very good copy of a scarce eighteenth century edition of this classic compilation, in a handsome binding. Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus (sometimes known as Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam) (1466/1469-1536) was a Dutch Renaissance humanist and a Catholic Christian theologian. Erasmus was a classical scholar who wrote in a 'pure' Latin style and enjoyed the sobriquet 'Prince of the Humanists.' He has been called 'the crowning glory of the Christian humanists.' Using humanist techniques for working on texts, he prepared important new Latin and Greek editions of the New Testament.
