Action, adventure with a touch of science fiction. An amateur archaeologist discovers an ancient glass that sees the future. The Gods' Glass is both action adventure and science fiction. It involves archaeology, the art world, travel and politics. Jerry Canfield has long made a living by smuggling Meso-American artifacts into the United States and selling them to dealers in the Santa Fe art market. He is a hustler and a former numbers runner with an aptitude for cards, mathematics and amateur archeology. On a trip to Belize to acquire pre-Columbian relics, he finds a peculiar green glass contained in a metal frame. The glass is found in a Mayan tomb recently uncovered by an earthquake. The inscriptions on the metal are not Mayan, but in long-dead Middle Eastern languages. The Mayan tomb dates from a pre-Columbian time when metal and glass were unknown in the Americas. Canfield solves the secret of the glass and discovers that by looking through the glass, one can see the future. However, the future that can be viewed is limited—only five minutes and fifty seconds ahead of the present. Canfield realizes that, even with future knowledge of less than six minutes, the holder can obtain riches, power, and control over destiny. When the United States government discovers the existence of the glass, Canfield is forced to flee the country. He attempts to sell the glass to Colonel Ali bin Haroun, the head of the Secret Police of Greater Syria, and to obtain protection from the United States government. Haroun is an amateur archeologist himself but has a ruthless desire for power. He recognizes the glass for what it can be. The United States sends an assassin to Syria to kill Canfield and to recover the glass. Canfield becomes trapped between the assassin and Colonel Haroun as he attempts to escape with his life, and with the glass. Canfield escapes to Beirut, Lebanon and the climax comes when Colonel Haroun and his men face Canfield and his assassin on a ferry from Beirut to Cyprus.
